Dilational transition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003210
A phase transition in which a crystal expands or contracts along one or more crystallographic axes while keeping its symmetry about those axes. The change in dimensions leaves the symmetry intact. Examples are the change from a CsCl-type to a rock-salt structure and the metal-to-semiconductor transition in quenched nickel sulfide, which expands the volume.
