Jahn-Teller transition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006277
A phase transition in a solid material driven by the Jahn-Teller effect, where a degenerate electronic state in a molecule or crystal distorts to lower its symmetry and remove the degeneracy. This distortion leads to a change in the crystal structure. It is observed in many transition metal compounds.
