JAK/STAT signaling pathway
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006278
A cell-signaling route in which a cytokine binds its receptor at the cell surface and activates the receptor-associated Janus kinases (JAKs). The kinases phosphorylate STAT proteins (signal transducers and activators of transcription), which pair up, enter the nucleus and switch on target genes, thereby regulating immune responses, cell division and apoptosis. Mammals have four JAK proteins (JAK1 to JAK3 and TYK2) and seven STAT proteins.
