Kinase
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006338
An enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of a phosphate group from a high-energy phosphate-donating molecule, such as ATP, to a specific substrate. This process, known as phosphorylation, modifies the function of the target protein, lipid, or carbohydrate. Kinases are classified based on the substrate they phosphorylate, for example, protein kinases phosphorylate proteins.
