Protein kinase

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009580

An enzyme that modifies other proteins by chemically adding phosphate groups to them in a process called phosphorylation. This covalent modification typically occurs on serine, threonine, or tyrosine residues, altering the target protein's function, localization, or interaction with other molecules. Protein kinases are central components of signal transduction pathways, regulating cellular processes such as metabolism, cell cycle progression, and apoptosis.
