Protein identification
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009579
The process of assigning an identity to an unknown protein or a set of proteins within a sample. This is achieved by comparing experimental data, most often from mass spectrometry, against theoretical data derived from protein sequence databases. The outcome is the assignment of a specific protein accession number or name, confirming its presence in the biological material under investigation.
