Database searching
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002868
The process of comparing experimental analytical data, such as mass spectrometry fragmentation patterns or spectroscopic fingerprints, against a collection of known reference data stored in a database. This technique is used to identify unknown compounds, proteins, or nucleic acids by finding the best match between the experimental and theoretical data. It is a core component of many bioinformatics workflows.
