Data reduction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002867

The process of transforming a large set of raw experimental data into a corrected, ordered, and simplified summary. This transformation converts instrument readings into physically meaningful quantities, involving steps like background subtraction, noise filtering, and calibration. In mass spectrometry, data reduction includes converting ion signals over time into a mass-to-charge spectrum, identifying peaks, and calculating their relative abundances.
