Reduction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010054
A chemical process involving the gain of electrons by an atom, ion, or molecule, or a decrease in its oxidation state. This can occur through the addition of hydrogen atoms, the removal of oxygen atoms, or direct electron transfer. Reduction always occurs concurrently with an oxidation process in a redox reaction.
