Reducing
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010053
A sampling operation that decreases the mass of a laboratory sample, the particle size of its material, or both. Mass is reduced by division, for example coning and quartering, riffling or a rotary divider, and particle size by milling or grinding. Reducing a laboratory sample in this way gives the test sample, from which test portions are taken.
