Reduced sample

A representative part of the original bulk (gross or composited) sample produced by dividing and reducing it, usually to a mass close to what the final laboratory sample will be. It comes from the bulk sample and not from the laboratory sample, and the test sample and test portion are prepared from the laboratory sample afterwards.
