Subsample
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011520
A portion of a sample taken for analysis or for storage, which is assumed to be representative of the original sample. When a laboratory sample is too large for direct analysis, one or more subsamples are prepared from it through a process called subsampling. If the original sample is not homogeneous, it must be mixed before a representative subsample can be taken.
