Coning and quartering
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002436
A manual method for reducing the size of a bulk solid sample while maintaining its representativeness. The material is first formed into a cone, then flattened, and divided into four equal quarters. Two opposite quarters are discarded, and the remaining two are combined and re-coned, repeating the process until a suitable sample size is achieved.
