Sampling cone
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010503
A small-orifice cone at the front of an atmospheric pressure spray ionization interface, which lets part of the spray enter the first, differentially pumped region of the mass spectrometer. In inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry the corresponding first cone samples the plasma and is usually made of nickel or platinum.
