Inductively-coupled plasma torch

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005806

The component in an inductively-coupled plasma (ICP) system where the plasma is generated and sustained. It typically consists of concentric quartz tubes through which argon gas flows, and a radiofrequency coil surrounds the outer tube to induce the plasma. The sample is introduced into the plasma through the central tube for atomization and ionization.
