Reduction
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004737
The process of decreasing the cross-sectional area of a workpiece through a forming operation like rolling, drawing, or forging. In rolling, it is the difference between the initial and final thickness of the metal sheet or bar after passing through a set of rolls. The amount of reduction per pass is limited by the material's ductility, the friction between the rolls and the workpiece, and the power of the rolling mill.
