Rolling brownout
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004916
A temporary, intentional reduction in voltage in an electrical power supply system by the utility provider, affecting a sequence of different areas. Unlike a blackout, which is a total loss of power, a brownout only lowers the voltage, causing lights to dim and potentially damaging sensitive electronic equipment. The voltage reduction is typically in the range of 5 to 10 percent of the nominal system voltage.
