Rolling blackout

A deliberate, temporary interruption of electric power to different areas on a rotating basis. This measure is implemented by utility companies to prevent the collapse of an entire power grid when demand for electricity exceeds available supply. The duration and frequency of these outages are managed to distribute the impact across a service area.
