Tertiary structure of a protein

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013645

The overall three-dimensional shape of a single protein molecule, resulting from the folding of its polypeptide chain. This structure is stabilized by interactions between amino acid side chains, including hydrophobic interactions, hydrogen bonds, disulfide bridges, and ionic bonds. The specific tertiary structure dictates the protein's biological function and its interaction with other molecules.
