Secondary structure

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010633

The local spatial arrangement of the polypeptide backbone in a protein, stabilized by hydrogen bonds between amide groups. Common types include alpha-helices and beta-sheets, which are regular, repeating structures. These structures are formed by interactions between amino acids that are relatively close to each other in the primary sequence.
