Beta-sheet
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001204
A common secondary structure in proteins, formed by two or more polypeptide strands aligned side-by-side and connected by hydrogen bonds between backbone amide and carbonyl groups. These strands can be parallel or antiparallel, creating a pleated, sheet-like appearance. This structure is prevalent in fibrous proteins like silk fibroin.
