Alpha-helix
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000448
A common secondary structure found in proteins, characterized by a right-handed coiled conformation in which the polypeptide backbone forms a spiral. This structure is stabilized by hydrogen bonds between the carbonyl oxygen of one amino acid and the amide hydrogen of an amino acid four residues away. It is a fundamental building block of protein architecture.
