Beta-barrel

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001202

A common protein structural motif composed of multiple beta-strands arranged in a circular fashion to form a barrel-like structure. These structures often create a pore or channel through biological membranes, facilitating the transport of molecules. Beta-barrels are frequently found in outer membrane proteins of Gram-negative bacteria and in some eukaryotic proteins.
