Beta relaxation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001200

A secondary relaxation process observed in polymers below the glass transition temperature, involving localized motions of small segments of the polymer chain. This molecular motion is distinct from the larger-scale cooperative movements associated with the alpha relaxation. Beta relaxation contributes to the mechanical properties of glassy polymers, such as impact strength, and can be detected through dynamic mechanical analysis.
