Local conformation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006731
The spatial arrangement of atoms in a small, contiguous part of a macromolecule, such as a constitutional unit or a short sequence of units. This arrangement is described by the set of torsion angles (dihedral angles) along the polymer backbone within that specific segment. The local conformation determines short-range interactions, while the collection of all local conformations defines the overall shape of the polymer chain.
