Staggered conformation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011277
A spatial arrangement of atoms in a molecule where the substituents on adjacent atoms are as far apart as possible when viewed along the bond connecting those atoms. This arrangement minimizes steric repulsion between groups. For ethane, the staggered conformation has a dihedral angle of 60 degrees between the hydrogen atoms on adjacent carbons.
