Stagewise contactor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011276
An apparatus designed to perform a separation process in a series of discrete equilibrium steps, or stages, where two immiscible phases are brought into contact. In each stage, components are transferred between the phases until equilibrium is approached. Examples include mixer-settlers in liquid-liquid extraction or plate columns in distillation, which are used to achieve high separation efficiencies.
