Craig countercurrent distribution apparatus
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002654
A laboratory device for performing multistage liquid-liquid extractions, consisting of a series of interconnected glass tubes designed for sequential partitioning of a solute between two immiscible liquid phases. In each stage, the mixture is equilibrated, the phases are allowed to separate, and one phase is transferred to the next tube in the series. The apparatus separates compounds based on their differing partition coefficients between the two liquids, with solutes moving at different rates along the train of tubes.
