Distribution
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003340
The apportionment of a solute, the distribuend, between two immiscible or partially miscible liquid phases in contact with each other. This process results in an equilibrium state where the solute's chemical potential is equal in both phases. The extent of distribution is quantified by the distribution ratio, which is the total analytical concentration of the solute in the organic phase divided by its total analytical concentration in the aqueous phase.
