Distribution constant

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003341

The ratio of the concentration of a solute in the stationary phase to its concentration in the mobile phase at equilibrium in a chromatographic system. This constant, often denoted as K, is a measure of the solute's affinity for the stationary phase relative to the mobile phase. It is a fundamental parameter in chromatography.
