Partition coefficient

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008519

The ratio of the concentration of a solute in one phase to its concentration in a second, immiscible phase at equilibrium. This value, often denoted as P or K_D, indicates the relative affinity of a compound for each phase. It is a fundamental parameter in chromatography and solvent extraction, influencing separation efficiency.
