Octanol-water partition coefficient
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008190
The ratio of the concentration of a chemical in n-octanol to its concentration in water at equilibrium, at a specified temperature and pH. This coefficient indicates the lipophilicity or hydrophobicity of a substance. It is commonly expressed as its logarithm, log P, and is a key parameter in assessing the environmental fate and bioaccumulation potential of chemicals.
