Solvent
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013567
A liquid substance, or a mixture of liquids, capable of dissolving other substances (solutes) to form a homogeneous mixture known as a solution. In liquid-liquid distribution, the solvent is the liquid phase, often an organic liquid, into which a solute is transferred from another immiscible liquid phase. The choice of solvent is based on its ability to selectively dissolve the target compound while being immiscible with the initial sample matrix.
