Extractant
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004284
The principal active component of an extraction system, which is chiefly responsible for moving the solute between the two phases, for example tributyl phosphate. Sometimes it forms the entire organic phase and sometimes it is dissolved in a diluent. The names solvent and ligand are not recommended for it, although in sample preparation the word extractant also stands for the extracting solvent.
