Diluent
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003213
A solvent or mixture of solvents used to reduce the concentration of a solute in a solution or to decrease the viscosity of a liquid. In solvent extraction, it is an inert liquid that is mixed with the extractant to modify its physical properties, such as density or interfacial tension, without participating in the extraction reaction. Common diluents include kerosene and toluene.
