Solvent mole fraction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011027

The mole fraction of one solvent component calculated on the basis of the solvent constituents only, that is, its amount divided by the total amount of all solvents, with the solutes left out of the sum. In a mixed solvent such as water and methanol containing a dissolved salt, it describes the composition of the solvent mixture independent of how much solute is present. The same construction applied to masses gives the solvent mass fraction.
