Solvent migration-distance
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011026
The distance traveled by the mobile phase from the point of application or origin along the stationary phase in planar chromatography. This measurement is taken from the starting line, where the sample was initially spotted, to the final position of the solvent front when the chromatogram development is stopped. The solvent migration-distance is a key parameter used in calculating the retardation factor (Rf value), which is the ratio of the distance traveled by the solute to the distance traveled by the solvent front.
