Relative retardation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010159
A planar chromatography quantity equal to the retardation factor of a sample component divided by that of a reference substance, and the counterpart of relative retention in column chromatography. Because the solvent front is common to both spots, it can be found by dividing how far the component spot moved by how far the reference spot moved. A value above 1 means the component runs ahead of the reference.
