Relative resolution
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010158
The fineness of a spectrometer's resolution expressed as a fraction of the position on the scale where it is measured, so for an electron spectrometer it is the peak width ΔE divided by the energy E. A smaller value means a sharper instrument, and its inverse is the resolving power. In the constant retarding ratio mode of an electron energy analyser the ratio ΔE/E stays fixed while ΔE grows with energy.
