Resolution: peak width definition

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010237

A measure of the ability of a mass spectrometer to distinguish between two ions of slightly different mass-to-charge ratios, defined by the width of a single peak. It is calculated as the mass-to-charge ratio of the peak divided by its width at a specified percentage of its maximum height. Common definitions use the full width at half maximum (FWHM) or 5% of the peak height.
