Resolution
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010235
A measure of how well an analytical method separates two adjacent signals. In mass spectrometry it is the ratio M/ΔM, where ΔM is the smallest mass difference at which two peaks still separate or the width of a single peak, while in chromatography it equals twice the distance between two peak maxima divided by the sum of their base widths. In optical spectroscopy it is the smallest wavelength or wavenumber separation of two lines that remain distinguishable.
