Resolution
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003131
The ability of a seismic survey to distinguish between two closely spaced geological features or to image fine details within the subsurface. It is influenced by the frequency content of the seismic waves, with higher frequencies providing better resolution. Vertical resolution is typically about one-quarter of the seismic wavelength, while horizontal resolution is related to the Fresnel zone.
