Vertical resolution
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004034
The ability of a logging tool to distinguish between two closely spaced features along the axis of the wellbore. A tool with high vertical resolution can detect thin beds, whereas a tool with low resolution averages properties over a larger interval, potentially masking fine details. Vertical resolution is measured in units of length, with tools like formation imagers having resolutions of less than an inch, while nuclear tools have resolutions of one to two feet.
