HTI
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001874
Seismic anisotropy with a horizontal symmetry axis, as produced by a set of parallel vertical fractures whose planes are perpendicular to that axis. Waves travel at one speed along the axis and at another speed in any direction within the vertical plane perpendicular to it, so velocity varies with azimuth. This differs from VTI, where the symmetry axis is vertical and horizontal layering is the usual cause.
