Axis of rotational symmetry

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000231

A line about which a three-dimensional object or a two-dimensional shape can be rotated by some angle, less than a full circle, and appear unchanged. In geophysics, this concept applies to the symmetry of rock properties, such as seismic velocity or electrical conductivity, within a formation. Transversely isotropic media, for example, exhibit an axis of rotational symmetry.
