Main magnetic field
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002265
The dominant part of the Earth's magnetic field, generated by convection currents in the liquid outer core. This field accounts for over 90% of the observed magnetic field at the Earth's surface and changes slowly over geological time. It is typically modeled as a dipole field, with its axis tilted relative to the Earth's rotational axis.
