Eddy current
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001244
A localized electric current induced within a conductor by a changing magnetic field. These currents create their own magnetic fields that oppose the change in the original magnetic field, leading to energy loss as heat. In well logging, eddy currents can affect the measurements of induction tools, particularly in conductive formations or when the tool is close to the borehole wall.
