Magnetotelluric method

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002264

A passive electromagnetic geophysical technique that measures naturally occurring variations in the Earth's electric and magnetic fields to determine subsurface electrical resistivity. These natural fields are generated by lightning strikes and solar wind interactions with the ionosphere. The method is used to image deep geological structures, such as sedimentary basins, geothermal reservoirs, and crustal faults, by analyzing the frequency-dependent impedance of the Earth.
