Magnetometer
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002263
An instrument that measures the strength, and for some types the direction, of a magnetic field. Proton precession and optically pumped cesium vapor magnetometers record the total field intensity, while fluxgate magnetometers record the field component along each sensor axis. Surveys carry them on land, in aircraft or in towed marine sensors to detect small variations in the Earth's field caused by subsurface geology.
