Nondipole field
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002556
The component of the Earth's magnetic field that cannot be described by a simple dipole (bar magnet) located at the Earth's center. This field component arises from more complex current systems within the Earth's core. It accounts for the regional variations and anomalies observed in the geomagnetic field that deviate from the idealized dipole model.
